Embassy of Sweden presents the exhibition 'Snow and Rain Shall Pass' by Swedish Photographer Karin Alfredsson.
Karin Alfredsson was born in Jämtland and grew up on Frösön. As a photographer, she seeks out landscapes that few humans have visited, and even fewer have left their mark on: forests, mountains, and waterways. Today these locations are rare and hard to find.
Alfredsson walks or skis to remote land, often spending long periods of time, to fully get to know her surroundings, waiting for the right conditions to appear for her photographs. The weather, light, and atmosphere are as important as the landscape itself.
Snow and Rain Shall Pass is the title of an ongoing series of works: it is poetic, yet factual, as a weather report. Alfredsson is not interested in beauty the way it is normally depicted on conventional postcards. Her photographs are from northern Scandinavia, places like the Dyatlov Pass, Buvriejaverie, and the Arctic region, but Alfredsson prefers not to title them with specific names. They "just are”.
Group tours of the exhibition are offered based on availability. For inquiries, please contact the Embassy at: swedeninusa@gov.se
Evening hours to view the exhibition will be offered between 5-7 PM on the below dates. The Embassy's Cultural Counselor Stefan Hansen will be available to answer questions and offer tours. Please reserve your spot here. Drop-ins are welcome if space is available. FREE admission.
