The Swedish Dialogue Institute for the Middle East and North Africa had an intense 2023, hosting, co-hosting, and participating in conferences, webinars, meetings, and other activities.
During Sweden’s EU presidency in the spring of 2023, the Institute arranged meetings on the EU-MENA relations and on the European Union’s Southern Neighbourhood policy, with a view to explore how strengthened dialogue can improve the conditions for more favourable political, economic, and social developments in the region and for the relations between the two regions.
Another priority area was intergenerational dialogue, on which the Institute throughout the year held a wide range of activities, workshops, roundtable discussions, bilateral meetings and a survey. In a co-creation process this led to the publication of a guidance note on intergenerational dialogue, developed in collaboration with the Folke Bernadotte Academy.
During the year the Institute also continued its work on promoting the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda, as well as its engagement on the climate agenda.
This annual report summarises some of the highlights of the Dialogue Institute’s main activities during the past year.
