27 sep 2023

The Swedish Dialogue Institute for the Middle East and North Africa had an intense past year, hosting, co-hosting, and participating in conferences, webinars, meetings, and other activities, in addition to the formal inauguration of the Institute in November 2022 and the appointment of the Institute’s Advisory Committee.

After moving into its new permanent premises in Amman, the Institute was formally inaugurated in connection with the state visit to Jordan by H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf in November 2022. In 2022 the Institute’s Advisory Committee was appointed and held its first meeting back-to-back with a regional forum on ‘Inclusivity in Peace and development’.

Since then, the Dialogue Institute has continued to build on its programmes and activities in line with its mandate and strategy. The Institute has been hosting, co-hosting, and participating in conferences, webinars, meetings, and other activities on topics such as Climate change, Intercultural dialogue and the agendas on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) and on Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS).

As part of Sweden’s EU Presidency, the Institute focused much of its work in the spring of 2023 on EU-MENA dialogues. Moreover, it engaged in a knowledge-creating process to enhance and promote Intergenerational Dialogue.

This newsletter summarises some of the highlights of the Dialogue Institute’s main activities during the past year – autumn 2022 and spring 2023.
