She is the first Mozambican intern to work at the Swedish Embassy in Maputo. Meet Kérshia Cavele, our new intern to the political, trade and communication group and learn about her passion for development and human rights.
You are the first Mozambican intern to work at the Swedish Embassy. Tell us about yourself.
I am a Mozambican national. I attended school in Maputo and later moved abroad to do my bachelors in South Africa and Masters in Switzerland. I studied International Relations and Development.
Why did you decide to apply for this position?
I was looking for experience. I wanted to get an opportunity to get experience in an area that I see my career moving towards. I am passionate about development and the betterment of people´s lives. That’s what I like to do.
You have been with us for 3 months already. How do you view the internal environment of the Embassy?
I have a lot of fun here (giggles). Everyone is pretty much chilled, there is mutual respect. There is a lot of work, sometimes more than usual. There is team work for sure and everyone is pretty much approachable and willing to help.
So, how would you describe our Embassy?
Diverse, active and fun, especially with fika. We are always celebrating special moments. That’s nice!
What learnings do you draw from this experience?
I learnt with this group about the importance of taking ownership of your image outside. That was a green light for me. It’s extremely important to communicate about Swedish culture, lifestyle and the work that is being done by Sweden.
What comes to mind when you hear the word “Sweden”?
Innovative, fika, cold (giggles).
What would advise other Mozambican nationals interested in applying for this internship?
Be proactive, be willing to learn and work with other groups within the Embassy.
