Young Courage Award

What is moral courage for you? How can each of us contribute to a more humane society? How visible are the brave deeds of the youth? Do we support and promote them enough?

The Young Courage Award is an international recognition given to youth with the aim to ‘highlight young people between the ages of 13 and 20, who with small resources have made a great human difference and shown evidence of moral courage and commitment’.

The campaign for promotion of this award and nomination of young people from North Macedonia is organized by the Embassy of Sweden in Skopje and the National Youth Council of Macedonia (NYCM), with the support of the Swedish Institute and the Raul Wallenberg Academy in Stockholm.

The award was launched in Sweden in 2015 at the initiative of the Raul Wallenberg Academy to promote youth activities that contribute to a more humane and just world. This year, for the first time, the Young Courage Award goes international.

The award is presented in honor of Raul Wallenberg, who, during World War II, as a Swedish diplomat in Budapest, saved from deportation to Nazi concentration camps thousands of Jews. The human heritage of this great man who is a symbol of moral courage, when "there was no other choice" but "to do everything possible" in order to save as many people as possible, today is an inspiration and encouragement for everyone to find in them the moral courage and to do good works.

The opportunity for young people from North Macedonia, together with peers from five European countries, to be nominated for this important award is a result of the cooperation between the Swedish Embassy in Skopje and the National Youth Council in Macedonia in promoting the active role of young people in building a democratic society.

The "Young Courage" award is a recognition of the commitment of young people aimed at promoting human rights, humanity, solidarity and moral courage.

We look forward to being part of this important initiative and believe that one of the winners of this year "Young Courage" can be found among the youth in North Macedonia.

Nominations with information about the candidate and a brief explanation of why that particular young person is nominated should be sent to the e-mail: ambassaden.skopje@gov.se, with a subject title "For the Young Courage Award", no later than March 15 2021.

We invite you to follow the social media of the Embassy of Sweden in Skopje, for all additional information.
