On Sunday 14 April the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai organized a pre-departure event in Shanghai for Chinese students who have been admitted to universities in Sweden. The students had a chance to mingle with Swedish universities and learn more about Swedish campus culture. On Saturday 13 April, Young Professionals in Shanghai arranged a Swedish Career Fair with several Swedish companies participating.
The regular pre-departure event is an opportunity for students to learn everything about studying in Sweden, including how to apply for a residence permit and how to make Swedish friends in Sweden. The students first listened to presentations and then talked with representatives from Swedish universities in smaller groups. After dinner followed a quiz that tested the students’ knowledge of Sweden. With over 200 student participants, it was the largest pre-departure event organized by the consulate, and a testament to the strength of Swedish universities in China. In total around 1 200 Chinese students go to Sweden for studying every year.
On Saturday, Young Professionals arranged a career fair with Swedish company booths and lectures. Consul General of Sweden in Shanghai Lisette Lindahl held a speech at the fair in which she talked about the Swedish company culture and the importance of finding a workplace that makes you look forward to going to work in the morning.
