Vacancy announcement: Political and Communications Officer

The Embassy is looking for a highly motivated and committed candidate to support the Political and Communications work of the Embassy of Sweden in Tel Aviv for the year 2025. The deadline to apply is 13 February 2025, and the starting date is as soon as possible.
General
The Embassy of Sweden in Tel Aviv is responsible for representing Sweden as well as to follow and promote Swedish interests in Israel .
The overall tasks of the Embassy include maintaining a dialogue with the Israeli government, other public representatives and the civil society, following and reporting on domestic and regional political and security developments and economic issues as well as to promote Swedish business, trade, innovation and culture. Another central task is to provide consular and migration services.
Responsibilities
Under the Deputy Head of Mission and in close cooperation with the Head of Promotion/Communication as well as the Ambassador, the Political and Communications Officer will perform the following tasks:
Political
- Attend meetings and events, build and maintain networks and contacts to provide reporting on political and security related developments;
- Monitor Hebrew and English-speaking media, social media and other outlets and provide regular and ad hoc summaries and reports on trends and political developments;
- Preparing written material for the Embassy’s management including background notes, speaking points, meeting minutes, speeches etc.
- Monitor domestic politics including legal and parliamentary aspects;
- Maintaining the Embassy’s network of contacts with relevant authorities, institutions and partners;
- Contribute to promote Sweden’s diplomatic efforts in promoting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process;
- Contact with Israeli civil society organisations, including human rights and peace and reconciliation organisations.
- Administrative tasks relating to the day-to-day functioning of the Embassy.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of the Embassy’s activities and events.
Communication
- Building and maintaining a network of journalists, relevant social media actors and other press officers for the Embassy.
- Contribute to Sweden’s public diplomacy in Israel, including use of social media channels and to promote Swedish interests in Israeli arenas and networks.
- Contribute to and implement the Embassy’s communication plan, in line with the Communication Strategy, including actively communicating around the Embassy’s promotion projects, on trade, innovation, culture and the promotion of Sweden, to enhance their public impact.
- Produce, edit and design a variety of communications material in Hebrew and English, including text, images and video content for the Embassy’s webpage and social media outlets, public presentations;
- Monitor and analyse media sources and trends.
Qualifications and experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations or a related field (communication, journalism, public relations etc.). A Master’s degree in a similar subject will be considered as an advantage.
- Minimum of three years of professional working experience in matters related to the job description.
- Excellent command of Hebrew and English (reading, writing and speaking);
- Excellent analytical, writing and editing skills, across a variety of communication formats, both verbally and in writing;
- Experience in building and managing relationships with a wide range of actors, including government officials, international organisations, media/press contacts and CSOs,
- Excellent computer literacy.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills;
- Excellent knowledge of social media content management, including writing and editing, managing publications as well as handling analytics and monitoring tools;
- Experience in photo and video editing and in the creation of illustrations and graphic designs for online communications is considered an advantage;
- Knowledge of Sweden and the Swedish language would be an advantage.
Other requirements
- Strong knowledge and interest in the political and economic developments in Israel and regional developments. Excellent knowledge of the political governance structure and functioning of relevant authorities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Word, Excel and Power point
- Willingness and ability to learn, develop and take responsibility.
- Personal integrity, respectful of ethical standards.
- Ambitious, self-driven with a dynamic and flexible approach to fulfilling the functions and duties of the position.
- Strong interpersonal skills, contributing to building our team spirit.
- Ability to work independently and meet short deadlines.
- Proven networking skills.
- Strong organisational, coordination, multitasking and time management skills;
Employment conditions
- The position is a full-time and temporary employment for the year of 2025 with a probationary period of three months. Starting date is as soon as possible.
- The salary will be based on the scale for local personnel at the Embassy of Sweden in Tel Aviv, which is an equal opportunity employer. Other conditions follow the Embassy´s terms and conditions for local staff.

Deadline for application is 13 February 2025. Early applications welcome. Shortlisted candidates must be available for interviews and a brief written test, shortly after the deadline.

The successful candidate will be required to pass security certifications before an offer can be made and accepted.
