To support the humanitarian response in Yemen and address growing and acute humanitarian needs, Sweden together with Switzerland and the United Nations are convening for a High-Level Pledging Event in Geneva on 26 February 2019. Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallström together with Secretary-General António Guterres, and Vice President of the Federal Council Switzerland Simonetta Sommaruga, will urge the international community to act to end the humanitarian crisis.
After four years of conflict Yemen remains the world’s worst humanitarian crisis. More than 24 million people in Yemen, 80 per cent of the population, are in need of assistance and protection. It is now estimated that about 20.1 million people are food insecure, from whom 10 million people require immediate food assistance to avert famine conditions. The Stockholm agreement is an important step towards peace and requires the international community’s full support. While the political process progresses, direct support to the humanitarian crisis remains urgent.
The pledging event will be livestreamed from 10,00 a.m. CET.
