Migration Assistant – temporary employment for 6 months

The Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa is responsible for Sweden's relations with Ethiopia, Djibouti, South Sudan, the African Union (AU), IGAD and UNECA. The Embassy consists of five sections: Political and multilateral affairs, promotion, and public diplomacy; Bilateral Development Cooperation; Regional Development Cooperation; Migration; and Administrative and Consular Section.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ JOB DESCRIPTION

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Receiving, reviewing and registering applications regarding alien’s passport, residence and work permit
  • Conducting interviews with applicants
  • Responding to general questions in migration issues from individuals and national authorities
  • Responding to general questions from the Swedish Migration Authorities
  • Handing out issued visas, passports and residence cards
  • Take biometrics
  • Filing and archiving
  • Flexible to do other tasks when required

QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCES

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor´s degree in Law, Social Sciences or similar
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, Amharic and Tigrinya
  • Excellent competency in computer applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Desirable qualification and experience:

  • Previous work experience in an Embassy or international organization
  • Working experience from official authorities such as migration, visa section and administrative section in a foreign office.
  • Additional language skills that are relevant to the position, for instance Swedish, French or Arabic.

  • Strong team working skills
  • Able to contribute positively as part of a team, helping with various tasks as required.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Good organizational and time management skills to prioritize high workloads.
