Emergency Travel Documents (ETD)

Emergency Travel Documents (ETD) can be issued for EU citizens.

Sweden’s embassy in Reykjavik can issue an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) to citizens of EU member states if the citizen’s member state doesn’t have diplomatic or consular representation in Iceland. The applicant must provide proof that their passport has been lost, stolen, destroyed, or is temporarily unavailable (EU Council decision 95/553/CFSP and 96/409/CSFP). The applicant must provide valid ID to prove citizenship in the EU member state. Prior to issuing the ETD, the embassy must first contact the nearest diplomatic mission representing the applicant’s EU member state to acquire permission to issue the ETD. The fee for an Emergency Travel Document (ETD) is 28.000 ISK, to be paid in cash when issued.
