Since 1980 Sweden has a permanent presence in Zimbabwe as a development cooperation partner. The current Development Cooperation Strategy with Zimbabwe for 2022-2026 focus on three main areas:
- Human rights, democracy, the rule of law and gender equality
- Environment, climate and sustainable use of natural resources
- Inclusive economic development

Sweden has diplomatic relations with almost all States in the world. It has embassies and consulates in around half of these. Sweden's foreign representation consists of approximately 100 missions abroad and 350 honorary consulates.
