The Swedish Migration Agency is launching a pilot for digital passport check to make it easier to apply for a residence permit. Students and workers from 23 countries are the first to be able to use the identification app Freja to show their passports.

NEWSThe Swedish Election for the European Parliament will be held on June 9, 2024. From abroad you can choose to vote by postal mail, or to vote early in person (förtidsrösta) at different voting locations throughout the U.S. The first date for early voting is May 16.
Click here for a list of voting locations, dates and opening hours in the USStarting February 15, 2024, applicants are to submit their applications for residence permits for visits through an e-application on the website of the Swedish Migration Agency. Applying online shortens the total waiting time since applications will be handled digitally and no longer sent by mail from a mission abroad to the Swedish Migration Agency. A digital application is submitted via the Swedish Migration Agency website and you pay with credit/debit card. Read more about how to submit you application below. After having submitted an application through the e-service, applicants will be contacted, by e-mail, with information on the next steps.
Visit Sweden for more than 90 days – apply for a visitor’s permit - MigrationsverketA Schengen visa is required for persons of certain nationalities who wish to visit the Schengen countries. A Schengen visa can be issued for a maximum of 90 days. U.S citizens do not need a visa to visit Sweden if the visit is 90 days or less. Visa applications for travel to Sweden can be submitted to one of the VFS Global Visa Application Centers in the USA.
