How do I get a coordination number for my child?

A child that is born after 1st April 2015 becomes a Swedish citizen automatically if one of the parents was a Swedish citien at the time of the birth.

A child born after 2001 and before 1st April 2015 can become a Swedish citizen, if one of the parents was a Swedish citizen at the time of the birth. Kindly read more about this on the Swedish Migration Agency’s website: Automatic citizenship through birth, adoption or the parents’ marriage - Migrationsverket

Both legal guardians must appear in person at the embassy together with the child, and both guardians must sign the name notification.

For the Embassy to be able to acquire a coordination number the following must be submitted in original:

  1. Passport/ID for the mother and the father
  2. Birth certificate (long slip from NIRA).
  3. Discharge form from the hospital.
  4. Marriage certificate (traditional/customary marriages not valid), the certificate should be registered with the URSB.
  5. If parents are not married, a court order stating the paternity (not custody) is required.
  6. One recently taken passport photo of the child.

Application for name can be filled at the Embassy. Send us an e-mail to book an appointment.
