The Swedish Embassy in Ankara is looking for a Trade Promotion Officer / Interpreter

    We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic locally employed colleague for the position as Trade Promotion Officer and Interpreter. 

    This is an exciting time to join the Swedish Embassy in Türkiye. We are focusing on strengthening and developing Swedish-Turkish relations, including in business and trade. This is a new position at our Section for political affairs and public diplomacy.  

    Main responsibilities

    • Develop a network of key stakeholders across government and private sector, as well as with multilateral financial institutions, in order to monitor developments in trade and economics and identify opportunities for Swedish business and trade.
    • Report on economic and policy developments in Türkiye relevant to trade.
    • Prepare briefings on trade and economics.
    • Plan, support, and conduct trade promotion projects, in close cooperation with other Embassy sections, as well as with Turkish and international partners.
    • Respond to queries from Swedish companies.
    • Support and contribute to the Embassy’s general Sweden promotion.
    • Cooperate with the Embassy’s development section on issues related to trade, as well as with the Consulate-General and Business Sweden office in Istanbul.
    • Translate documents and interpret at meetings.

    Key competences and required skills:

    • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral, in English and Turkish.
    • University degree in a relevant field such as economics, business, or political science.
    • At least three years of relevant working experience.
    • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks and develop and maintain contacts with multiple stakeholders and partners.
    • Ability to work in a busy environment supporting team members.
    • Proven organizational skills.
    • Creativity and a solution-oriented mindset.
    • High level of professional integrity.
    • Good networking and interpersonal skills, flexibility, and team spirit.
    • Knowledge of Swedish language and experience from having lived, studied and/or worked in Sweden is regarded as a merit.
    • Knowledge of previous working experience in aid and trade is regarded as a merit.

    Terms and conditions

    This is a full-time contract with 39,45 working hours per week. The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and satisfactory security clearance. A probation period will be applied. Staff recruited locally are subject to terms and conditions according to Turkish employment law and Swedish MFA guidance for local staff.

    The Embassy of Sweden in Ankara represents Sweden and the Swedish Government in Türkiye, in close cooperation with the Consulate General in Istanbul as well as Business Sweden in Istanbul. The main tasks are to promote Swedish interests in Türkiye and strengthen Swedish-Turkish bilateral relations. We report to the Swedish Government Offices on a broad range of issues, and conduct dialogues with Turkish Government authorities, business, and civil society. The Embassy has around 30 staff members, comprising both Swedish diplomats and locally employed staff.
