The Embassy of Sweden in Ankara is looking for a Political Officer

We are offering a position as Political Officer at our Section for Political Affairs and Public Diplomacy. 

This is a busy and interesting role within the Embassy, which we are looking to fill with an individual who is motivated, responsive, proactive and creative. 

Main responsibilities

  • To research, analyze and report about political developments in Türkiye, with a focus on domestic & foreign politics, human rights and economy
  • To provide regular media and thematic briefings
  • To identify, develop, and maintain Embassy contacts among politicians, government bureaucrats, think tankers, business interests, CSOs, media, academics and the international community
  • To help arranging visits for Swedish ministers, senior officials, parliamentarians, and others
  • To prepare and organize meetings, events and working trips for the Section and the Head of Mission
  • To make a positive contribution to the working environment at the Embassy

Required qualifications and skills

  • Academic background in a relevant field (such as political science, history, journalism, economics, law)
  • At least three years of relevant working experience
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in English and Turkish
  • A deep understanding of and interest in Turkish domestic and foreign politics
  • Interest in Swedish politics and priorities, and understanding the conditions of working in a politically managed organization
  • Analytical, networking, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize and to deliver on time
  • Positive and flexible attitude, social sensitivity and responsiveness, ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and team spirit
  • Be available to joining working trips as well as to work on evenings, weekends, early mornings, and Swedish and Turkish holidays, as needed

Salary & terms and conditions
This is a vacancy with a full-time work schedule with 39.45 working hours per week from Monday to Friday. All applicants under consideration will be subject to a professional background check and will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

Staff recruited locally are subject to terms and conditions according to Turkish employment law and Swedish MFA guidelines for local staff. Salary is set on an individual basis.
