Citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will, from December 2nd 2024, have their applications for residence- and work permit handled at the Swedish Consulate General in Istanbul instead of at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow.
NEWSThe Stockholm-based ambassadors are Sweden's representatives in some 30 countries where Sweden has no permanent diplomatic representation. The ambassadors are based in Stockholm but make regular trips to the countries in which they are accredited.
The Office to Support Small Missions Abroad (UD KSU) at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm helps in preparing matters and processing specific issues. There are honorary consulates in relevant countries. The honorary consulate can assist Swedish citizen in consular cases etc, but does not have the same capacity as an embassy.
Passport applicants are advised to renew their passport on their next visit to Sweden, or to contact the closest Swedish embassy in Moskow.
Residence and work permit applications are handled by the Consulate-General of Sweden in Istanbul.
