On February 21–24 the first edition of the Singapore Mental Health Film Festival (SMHFF) took place at local cinema “the Projector”. The aim of the festival was to challenge the social stigma surrounding mental illness and decrease the discrimination faced by those affected by it thorough film screenings, workshops and panel discussions.
The Embassy contributed by providing the film “The girl, the Mother and the Demon” that deals with schizophrenia by Swedish Director Suzanne Osten. The film drew a full house.
The festival was launched in the presence of the Swedish Ambassador Niclas Kvarnström and his Canadian colleague, High Commissioner Lynn McDonald. They both spoke about the importance of everyone joining forces and asserting efforts towards breaking the stigma of mental health issues.
