Today was the opening of the Round Table on illicit trafficking of small arms, light weapons and explosive devices. The event will last during three days in Belgrade, and will be held between the Serbian and the Swedish Police. Ambassador Jan Lundin participated today, together with the Serbian Minister of Interior, Nebojša Stefanović.
The goal of the event is to discuss what we can do together to address the illicit transfer, destabilizing accumulation and misuse of small arms and light weapons and their ammunition as the key drives of conflict, undermining sustainable peace.
Sweden is one of the EU Member States that particularly insist on the importance of Rule of Law in the enlargement process and provides adequate support to back up this requirement. Since 2004, Sweden has invested around 23 MEUR in reforms in the Serbian Ministry of Interior in a number of areas, such as crime scene investigations, Intelligence –Led Policing, gender equality, development of the capacities for strategic and human resources management and support to the EU integration process.
"I hope the discussion during these three days will result in the identification of a common ground between the Serbian and the Swedish police where you can cooperate better."
-Jan Lundin, Ambassador of Sweden in Belgrade.
