The Embassy of Sweden in Doha offers a unique and most rewarding opportunity. We are a small but effective team, with a mission to represent and promote Sweden in Qatar. The embassy’s work includes business promotion, political reporting, cultural events, Sweden promotion, administration and a limited consular service. Daily, the embassy interacts with both key decision makers and regular citizens from both Sweden and Qatar.
We are now inviting applications for consultancy in Social Media & Public Affairs Coordinator
The consultant is a local, part-time project engagement. We offer a competitive consultancy package. The position requires the occasional participation in evening events.
Tentative starting day: the 15th of Feb 2021 or as per agreement.
The Embassy in Doha was established in 2014. It is part of a Government project to develop small but effective missions, with a limited mandate and more administrative support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, a so called “mini-embassy”.
The Consultancy Engagement
The Embassy has a comprehensive and solid communication plan with bespoke strategies for the different marketing channels. Our presence on social media (SMM) is relatively new and the channels have been running for about a year. During that time, the embassy has had good campaigns underway, such as "Swedish personality of the month" and collaborated with bloggers, athletes, academics and more. We have also earned the award from the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs – “ Instagram of the Year”.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Handle the Embassy’s social media channels. Help setting a content strategy and annual calendar by planning and executing the social media strategy for the embassy in close coordination with the Trade and Public Affair specialist.
- Focus content on
o Business and Investment Promotion
o Communication and Sweden information
o Culture promotion
- Create content that is Embassy centric
- Create and implement UD based communication from the Swedish Ministry
- Ideation and creation of SMM frequent projects
- Entice two-way communication via SMM
- Increase SMM reach and followers
- Ad hoc support in press and media management
Eligibility
We prefer a candidate with a residence-permit in Qatar.
The ideal candidate will have
- Well-versed in all social media platforms
- Communication skills - Excellent spoken and written Swedish and English (Arabic is an advantage)
- Proactive, structures and well-organized personality with attention to details
- Creative and experienced in design programs for SMM ( stills and film)
- Team working skills
- Able to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines with limited supervision
- Previous experience in marketing and/ or advertising
- Service minded
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Office, design and internet tools.
- Well-rounded in Swedish Culture and way of life
- Knowledge and interest in Sweden and Swedish business and society
- Knowledge and interest in Qatar and its business and society
- Knowledge in press and media management
- Hands-on approach to perform upcoming tasks effectively
- Experience in organizing visitor’s programs, logistics and local events is an advantage
Salary and employment
The embassy of Sweden offers a competitive consultancy package for local, project part-time engagement for about 8 hours/ week.
