Vacancy: Assistant in the Political and Trade Affairs Section

The Embassy of Sweden in Abuja is accredited to Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, and ECOWAS. One of the Embassy’s core activities is to promote trade and economic cooperation between our countries and contribute to a positive image of Sweden in our area of operations. The Embassy is now looking for a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as an Assistant in the Political and Trade Affairs Section. The position is a full-time employment with a probationary period of six months, starting on 3 March 2025.

Key responsibilities:

In this role, you will contribute to the drafting and managing of content for the Embassy’s and the Ambassador’s social media accounts. You will assist in planning and executing Sweden and business promotion events and activities. Additionally, you will provide administrative and secretarial support to the Head of the Political and Trade Affairs Section, including handling correspondence, mail, travel arrangements, and calendar.

You will also assist with high-level visits to and from Sweden and other external activities of the Embassy, particularly those related to business and Sweden promotion. Maintaining contacts with the Swedish Alumni networks in Nigeria, Cameroon, and Ghana will also be part of your duties.

Furthermore, you will substitute, when necessary, for the Personal Assistant to the Ambassador, and for the Communication and Promotion Officer.

In summary:

  • Draft and manage content for the Embassy’s and the Ambassador’s social media accounts.

  • Provide administrative support to the Head of the Political and Trade Affairs Section, including handling correspondence, mail, travel arrangements, and calendar.
  • Assist with high-level visits to and from Sweden and other external activities of the Embassy, particularly business and Sweden promotion.
  • Maintain contacts with the Swedish Alumni networks in Nigeria, Cameroon, and Ghana.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of substantive experience in relevant positions.
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English. Excellent secretarial and organisational skills as well as a keen eye for detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are important.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively as a team player.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to be diplomatic, professional, courteous, and interact with key players at all levels, both inside and outside the Embassy.
  • Good knowledge of, and interest in, Nigerian society, politics, and business environment.
  • Prior knowledge of (or interest in) Sweden is appreciated.
  • Proficiency in French is a plus but not required.
