On April 24–25, Christian Danielsson, State Secretary to Minister for EU Affairs Jessika Roswall, will visit Moldova to discuss the country’s EU integration. Torbjörn Sohlström, Director General for Political Affairs, is also part of the Swedish delegation.
The working visit to Chisinau offers an opportunity to discuss how Sweden can develop its cooperation with Moldova to support the country’s EU accession and reform efforts, as well as strengthen its resilience ahead of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
State Secretary Danielsson will also convey that Sweden is planning a new support to counter disinformation connected to the elections. This additional support will complement the ongoing Swedish support to independent media and cybersecurity in Moldova.
- I am impressed by Moldova’s resilience against Russia’s hybrid attacks and the multitude of crises that have occurred as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Sweden will remain committed to support Moldova in this challenging situation, says Christian Danielsson.
Sweden’s support to Moldova has increased since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In 2023, the support amounted to 494 million Swedish crowns. In October 2023, Sweden announced an energy package to Moldova amounting to 300 million crowns. This support is dedicated to vulnerable households in Moldova and will contribute to long-term energy efficiency and development of infrastructure in the country.
