As of Wednesday, March 18, Jordan announced a state of emergency.
Like many other governments around the world, the Jordanian government has decided on far reaching measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, leading to COVID-19 disease. From March 17, it is no longer allowed to enter or leave Jordan, and those who have recently arrived have been placed in mandatory quarantine for 14 days.
On March 18, the so-called Defense Law (number 13/1992) was activated, which in short means that:
- people are asked to stay at home and only move outside their home in emergency.
- grocery stores, pharmacies and gas stations are open while other shops and commercial operations, including restaurants and cafes, are closed.
- schools and universities are closed, as are most workplaces. The Embassy of Sweden is open during shorter visit times.
The state of emergency applies initially for two weeks and may be extended.
