The Embassy building was inaugurated in 1991 and was designed by Michael Granit. In addition to the Embassy, the building also housed Business Sweden and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
During the summer of 2023, the Embassy temporarily moved to the ARK Mori Bldg. 16th floor, 1-12-32 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo due to renovation work which is expected to be completed in 2026.
Sweden has diplomatic relations with almost all States in the world. It has embassies and consulates in around half of these. Sweden's foreign representation consists of approximately 100 missions abroad and 350 honorary consulates.
