The Embassy represents Sweden and the Swedish Government in Japan.
Sweden and Japan share a close partnership in a wide range of areas: business, trade, science, innovation, academia, international and social affairs, culture, creative industries etc.
Sweden and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1868. In 2018, 150 years of diplomatic relations were celebrated through a range of different activities in both Japan an Sweden.
The Embassy building in Roppongi was inaugurated in 1991 and besides the embassy the building includes Business Sweden and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
During the summer of 2023, the Embassy temporarily moved to the ARK Mori Bldg. 16th floor, 1-12-32 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo due to renovation work which is expected to be completed in 2026.

Sweden has diplomatic relations with almost all States in the world. It has embassies and consulates in around half of these. Sweden's foreign representation consists of approximately 100 missions abroad and 350 honorary consulates.
