Are you travelling to the UK? Here is information about the new entry requirements for Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)

18 Mar 2025

From 2 April 2025, Swedish citizens, including children, must apply for an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) before entering the UK.

Key points:

  • Exception: Swedish citizens residing in Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man and travelling from these locations are exempt from the requirement for an ETA. Read more about exemptions for residents in Ireland on the UK government's website.
  • Transit: No ETA is needed if you are only transiting through a UK airport without passing through border control (please contact the airline in case of uncertainty).
  • Application: It is possible to apply for an ETA from March 5, 2025. The application is made digitally via the UK authorities' website or app. The easiest way to apply is by downloading the ETA app.
  • Applies to: All Swedish citizens and travellers from most European countries visiting or transiting through the UK from 2 April 2025.
  • More information: See the UK government’s website for details on the ETA and the application process.

Kindly note that it is not possible to apply for an ETA on an emergency passport.

If you have any questions, please contact the UK authorities.
