On 20 July, the Embassy office was stormed, vandalised and set on fire. For this reason, the Embassy is closed to visitors until further notice. Activities are being conducted from Stockholm. It is not possible to call the Embassy and the Embassy is not able to issue passports – this includes provisional passports.
Our section office in Erbil is closed to the public until further notice. If you have any questions for the section office in Erbil, please send an email to ambassaden.bagdad@gov.se

PASSPORT RENEWAL
If you have a valid passport, you can travel to Sweden and apply for a new passport. If not, we refer you to Swedish embassies in other countries, except the embassy of Sweden in Teheran.
PASSPORT COLLECTION
Passports cannot be issued in Iraq, but we can send them to the police in Sweden or to a Swedish embassy in another country, except the embassy of Sweden in Teheran.
Passports for children under the age of 18 can be collected by a custodial parent with a valid passport or ID. Please bring the child’s current passport. The child does not need to come to the embassy on this occasion.
If you applied for a passport at an authority not located in Baghdad, you must pay an administrative fee of USD 20 per passport when you collect the passport(s).
LOST OR STOLEN PASSPORTS
If your passport is lost or has been stolen, you can apply for an EU emergency travel document (ETD) at one of the EU Member States’ embassies in Baghdad. Please note that an ETD is only valid for a one-way trip to Sweden.
You must first contact us at ambassaden.bagdad@gov.se so that we can secure your identity.
If you have a valid passport issued by another country, such as Iraq, we ask you to book a passport appointment at the Swedish embassy in another country.
