Ambassador Sammelin visited Moria camp toghether with Swedish delegation.
A delegation from Sweden visited Greece 8-12 October week to learn more about the work different entities, such as official authorities and NGO’s, conduct in Greece regarding migrant reception and management. The purpose of the visit was to use the acquired knowledge for the increase of preparedness.
The delegation made day-trips to some of the so called hot spots, located on different Greek islands. One of the sites visited was the island of Lesvos and the refugee camp Moria. Ambassador Charlotte Sammelin accompanied the delegation and met, among many, Swedish Frontex-staff, UNHCR-personnel, deputy head of camp Dimistris Vafeas and NORCAP:s Patric Mansour and was very impressed by their important work, despite the challenging circumstances. She also had a meeting with Lesvos mayor Spyros Galinos and discussed the economic and social situation on the island, as well as Lesvos’ extensive cultural work and the geology of the island.
