The embassy represents Sweden and the Swedish government in Croatia and promotes Swedish interests.
This is done through dialogue and cooperation with representatives of the Croatian government on matters of importance to both our countries and to the region, the EU, NATO and globally. We also cooperate with other social life in Croatia such as the parliament, the cultural and media sector, universities, and civil society organizations.
The embassy works for increased trade between our countries and to promote the image of Sweden in Croatia. About fifty Swedish companies are represented on the Croatian market, such as ABB, Astra Zeneca, Bjelin, Elekta, Ericsson, IKEA, SAAB, SOBI, Securitas, Tetra Pak and Volvo.
The embassy provides consular service to Swedish citizens. For example, passport applications, coordination numbers, detainees, victims of crime and deceased persons. We also offer advice and support to Swedish citizens in emergencies. The embassy handles certain migration matters.
Sweden has had diplomatic relations with Croatia since 1992, when Croatia became independent after previously being part of the former Yugoslavia. The political and bilateral relations between our countries are very good.
Nine people work at the Swedish embassy in Zagreb, of which three are sent out from the Foreign Ministry. The others are locally employed. A defense attaché covers Croatia from the embassy in Budapest. Business Sweden covers Croatia from Vienna. Ambassador Anna Boda has been head of the embassy since August 2023. There are Swedish honorary consulates in the coastal cities of Dubrovnik, Rijeka and Split.
