On Thursday 6 September the Anhui session of the third Sweden China Health Forum was held in Hefei on the topic chronic respiratory disease. The forum was organized by Project HOPE, the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai and the Anhui Hospital Association.
The focus of the Anhui session was Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), an often-underdiagnosed respiratory disease. The prevalence of COPD increases as society ages, which can lead to a considerable economic burden. Medical experts from China and Sweden spent the day discussing research, policy and practice related to diagnosing and treating respiratory disease.
Deputy Consul General Sebastian Magnusson participated in the session and gave opening remarks about Swedish policy and experience with national guidelines in diagnosing COPD.
The life sciences are an important area for Swedish trade, with pharmaceuticals alone making up 17% of Swedish exports to China. In the end of November this year, the Swedish Trade and Invest Council – Business Sweden – will be arranging a life science road show with Swedish companies in Hefei, which will further connect Swedish companies and solutions with eastern China.
