Swedish Consul General Mrs. Marie-Claire Swärd Capra and Counsellor for Forestry and Agricultural Affairs at the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing, Mr. Magnus Carnwall, participated at the high-level segment of this year’s SIAL Expo - Asia’s largest food and beverage innovation exhibition.
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought home how dependent we are on our food supply, and the fact that we will not survive without a sustainable food chain. Food should always be able to travel across borders, particularly in times of crisis. Global trade rules are key to reliable food chains. Also, we must be attentive to rural areas around the world as they are our heart and lungs for sustainable food chains.
Climate awareness is increasing. This brings societies, industries, and individuals to think and act in new ways. The food system is under transformation growing healthier primary products, creating fossil-free production plants, generating less food waste, and introducing sustainable animal breeding.
Consumer awareness encourages the Swedish food industry to constantly innovate to meet new demand. From it follows an increased pace of innovation in production methods, in the distribution of food, in the way food is consumed, but also in innovative, healthy, and full-flavored food and beverage products.
