After a digital fashion week in the first half of the year, 2021 Shanghai Fashion Week returned to normal in October. As part of Shanghai Fashion Week, the Consulate General and the Swedish Institute, together with Swedish brands H&M and BabyBjörn, presented an exhibition “Fashion Revolution: The future of textiles” from 9 – 13 October. In addition to the exhibition, a talk on the topic of sustainable fashion “The speed of fashion” on was held on 12 October. The exhibition was inaugurated by Consul General Marie-Claire Swärd Capra.
The fashion industry remains one of the least sustainable industries in the world. Additionally, the global garment production has more than doubled since the year 2000. While some 62 million tonnes of clothing are produced globally per year, only 20 percent is re-used or recycled.
The talk on “The speed of fashion” attracted an audience of around 50 people from the fashion industry, media and consumers. Four speakers, including Jonas Berg, the head of design Asia at Fjällräven, and representatives from Reclothing Bank, Neuni Design Group and WWD, exchanged their experience of working with sustainable fashion industry.
This was the ninth time the Consulate participates in Shanghai Fashion Week.
