Panel Discussion and Exhibition on Women’s Economic Empowerment

As part of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai organized the event Women’s Economic Empowerment for Global Sustainable Development on March 6. The event highlighted the importance of economic empowerment as one of the cornerstones of gender equality, underpinning women's independence.

The panel discussion featured a high-level line-up of speakers with experience from the automotive sector, industry, and the field of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). The discussion was moderated by Aiying Wang, President and CEO of Greater China, South-East Asia and India of Envac Group, and attended by Jill Tang, Co-founder of Ladies Who Tech, and Michel Qin Zhao, Vice President Communications & Marcom Centre at Volvo Cars, who shared insights and experience from leadership roles across sectors. The Consul General of Sweden in Shanghai Marie-Claire Swärd Capra delivered opening remarks.

 

The exhibition Her Rights! Money, Power, Autonomy! by the Swedish Institute was displayed at the event. The exhibition stresses the need for action in the area of economic gender equality focusing on the three interrelated topics of education, the labor market and in policy making and legislation. In total 65 people attended the event and visited the exhibition.
