Weeklong Sino-Nordic music collaboration project Music by Design wrapped up this Saturday with a live concert at YuYinTang. Artists from China, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden joined on stage for a fusion of styles.
Music by Design is a music collaboration project orchestrated by the four Nordic Consulates General in Shanghai and made possible thanks to the Nordic Council of Ministers and Shanghai International Culture Association (SICA). The project brings together Nordic and Chinese musicians and producers to create new sounds.
The week started with a reception at the Norwegian Consul General’s residence, followed by intense studio time building up to a live performance on Dec 1 at YuYinTang. More than 200 guests attended the concert.
The combination of genres made for a unique result. The Chinese and Danish nightlife merged, Norwegian pop met with Chinese punk, Swedish soul was accompanied by the Chinese guzhen and the Finnish and Chinese pairing combined two traditional instruments – the Finnish kantele and the Chinese pipa.
