On August 27, the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai together with the Swedish Institute, and the Swedish foundation Make Equal organized a #GlobalGuyTalk with the focus on parenthood and the role of fathers. During the talk, areas such as the impact of policies on gender equality and childcare as well as stereotypes and traditional gender roles were discussed.
Among the speakers were Tang Min, a full-time dad who has gained substantial attention for challenging gender stereotypes through his parenting. Volvo Cars, that recently introduced six months parental leave for all employees regardless of gender, was represented by Dai Jian, an engineer and new dad currently on parental leave. Steve Shi, host of the podcast “Steve说” guided the discussion. Deputy Consul General Jakob Holthuis, who recently returned to work following a longer period of parental leave, took part in the discussion.
The #GlobalGuyTalk was held at the Volvo Brand Experience Center. Around 30 participants, including several representatives of local media, attended the event. A video summary of the event can be seen here.
