On September 23, 2023, the Consulate General participated in the Shanghai-Gothenburg Sister Port Promotion Event, which was organized by the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, to celebrate and strengthen the long-lasting relationship between the two sister ports, with a focus on green port cooperation and cooperation in the field of transportation.
Representatives from Port of Gothenburg, Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office and leading international ports were also present for the event.
The event was held on the margins of the North Bund Forum 2023, an annual event that aims to deepen international collaboration and promote sustainable growth in the shipping and aviation industries.
The sister port agreement between Port of Gothenburg and Port of Shanghai was signed in 1994. It has strengthened the exchange of information, experience, and best practices on issues such as port management, environmental protection, logistics development, digitalisation, and new technology.
Consul General Amb. Swärd Capra gave a speech that highlighted the crucial role of the Port of Gothenburg for Swedish trade and competitiveness and its long-standing historical ties to Shanghai, as well as the potential for further cooperation in areas such as green port development and innovation.
Mr. Claes Sundmark of the Port of Gothenburg speech focused on the port’s aim of becoming the world’s most sustainable port and its target to reduce CO2 emissions by 70 percent by 2030.
Next year marks the 30th anniversary of sister port agreement between Port of Gothenburg and Port of Shanghai. The Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai looks forward to this special occasion.
