On January 18, the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai, inaugurated the exhibition Art on Screen, a collaboration with Fotografiska Shanghai and the Swedish Institute.
The exhibition, curated by Ms. Bettina Pehrsson from Kalmar Art Museum, showcases several video and screen-based works that engage and provoke thought across three themes: ‘Civilising Nature’, ‘Together’, and ‘Transitions’. The event was attended by around 80 guests.
In his opening remarks, the Deputy Consul General David Jallow encapsulated the essence of the exhibition, highlighting the significance of art in contemporary discourse: "As we navigate through these times of rapid change and uncertainty, the role of art arguably becomes even more critical. It reflects, questions, and sometimes even confronts the very fabric of our society.”
In an ensuing panel conversation the Deputy Consul General was joined by Ms. Helen Fu, a Corporate ESG & Sustainability Management expert, and Chloe Lin, Leader of Sustainability in Greater China at Oatly. Together, they explored the intersection between art & culture, corporate sustainability, and the green transition, offering insights into the opportunities that arise when these areas converge.
The exhibition Art on Screen aims to reshape our perception of the present moment, particularly in an era marked by war and climate denial, by helping us to see beyond the familiar and to encounter other people’s perspectives, points of view, and experiences. The artists come from different generations and have varying backgrounds. They explore themes of societal change, interpersonal relationships, and the interaction between humans and nature.
Art on Screen is open to the public and will be on display until February 18.
