As one of the masters of 20th century cinema Ingmar Bergman is unquestionably one of the most well-known Swedes in the world, and his reputation remains strong also in China. Ingmar Bergman was not only a film director but also a screenwriter, theatre director, playwright, and a prolific writer. In his role as author Bergman wrote over a hundred books and articles.
On 21 February the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai and Chinese writer Kaimei Wang jointly organized the launch of the Chinese translation by Wang of Bergman’s anthology “Essays, Articles, and Lectures” (Artiklar, essäer, föredrag) at the Majestic Theatre in central Shanghai. The anthology was edited by Christo Burman and first published in Sweden in 2018. The volume consists of the translations of 85 of Bergman’s non-fiction essays, articles, and lectures, all written during a time period spanning over more than 60 years. Around 90 people attended the event.
