About the Consulate General

The mission of the Consulate General is to represent Sweden, Swedish foreign policy, and promote Swedish interests in Shanghai and the provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. 17 people work at the Consulate General, three of which are posted from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and three from the Swedish Migration Agency.

The Consul-General Marie-Claire Swärd Capra is Head of Mission.

An important task for the Consulate General is to increase knowledge about Sweden, strengthen Sweden’s image among target groups in Shanghai, as well as to promote cooperation and long-term relations between Sweden and eastern China, especially when it comes to trade, culture and education. The Consulate General’s promotion section has four employees and the work is led by the Consul responsible for promotion.

The Consulate General assists with consular and civil service and issues Swedish passports and ID cards for Swedish citizens. The administrative staff is responsible for protocol matters, archives, accounting and property and security matters. The Consular and Administrative Group has five employees and the work is led by the Consul for Administration and Consular Affairs.

The Consulate General has extensive migration activities and deals with visa matters, as well as residence and work permits in cooperation with the Swedish Migration Agency. The Migration Group has seven employees and the work is led by the Consul responsible for Migration.
