The Embassy of Sweden in Beijing is looking for an experienced communications officer, with focus on social media, to join the public diplomacy, press and communications team.

We work within a variety of fields such as political and economic monitoring and reporting, science and research, defence matters, business and cultural promotion, public diplomacy, and communication as well as administrative and consular matters.

Your workplace

The Embassy’s team for public diplomacy, press and communication is responsible for promoting Sweden and Swedish culture, interests, and values. The team is also responsible for the Embassy’s traditional and social media as well as for promoting Sweden as a study destination. We are now looking for a Communications Officer who will be dedicated to the Embassy’s digital presence.

You will be part of a small team that is responsible for the Embassy's external communication, social media presence, and contacts with national and international media.

The position requires initiative skills, creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work both individually and in a team. The work will entail public events; social skills and good judgment are therefore crucial qualities. You will report to the team leader and are expected to take on other tasks in the team or the Embassy if needed.

Main tasks

The person we are looking for will:

  • Be responsible for the Embassy's social media channels and digital presence in China
  • Generate captivating and creative content for the Embassy´s communication, such as texts, photos, and short videos
  • Regularly monitor and report on Chinese media, including social media trends and hot topics
  • Promote the Embassy's activities and answer incoming inquiries
  • Contribute to the Embassy’s Sweden promotion, communication projects, and events
  • Coordinate study promotion activities and liaise with alumni network
  • Establish and maintain close cooperation with journalists
  • Provide communication support to all sections and staff at the Embassy

Essential qualifications, skills, and experience

  • Excellent English and Chinese language skills
  • Experience and knowledge of the traditional as well as the digital Chinese media landscape
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • 3–5 years professional experience in working with Chinese social media
  • Documented experience in photography and video content production
  • Documented experience in managing projects and events
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Creative, flexible, and capable of working independently and in teams
  • Social ability and good judgement
  • Deep knowledge of the Chinese society and culture

Meritorious

  • International work or study experience
  • Academic degree in communication, marketing, journalism, digital media, or related fields
  • Journalistic work experience or experience in maintaining networks with journalists and KOLs
  • Experience of interpreting between English and Chinese
  • Experience in or knowledge of Sweden or other Nordic countries
  • Knowledge in the Swedish language

What we offer

This is a full-time local position based at the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing. Work hours are 39,45 hours/week (full-time). Overtime and travel will occur.

A six-month probation period will apply. Individual salary applies and other terms and conditions will be discussed individually with successful candidates. All applicants must have a legal basis to live and work in China, either as Chinese citizen or with a correct visa/work permit in the case of Swedish applicants. The embassy will conduct a security interview with the person who is offered employment.
