The Embassy of Sweden in Beijing celebrated a combined National Day with one of Sweden’s most cherished traditions, Midsummer Celebration. The event was held on Thursday 6th of June in Beijing. Both National Day and Midsummer Celebration are deeply associated with outdoor activities and festivities. This year’s celebration took place outdoors at a venue close to the Embassy in Beijing.
The National Day is really an event where we, The Embassy, invites key representatives and decisionmakers, connectors and local partners/stakeholder who the Embassy have - or would like to have - working relations with.
This year we decided to try and create an event which could convey a feeling of welcoming, of “Nordic” easy going. An event which felt not too formal but then not too informal more “lagom”. We wanted the guest to be able to get a sense of what Sweden is all about in taste, look, sound, and most importantly feel.
The Choir by ABBA Museum, with 21 choir singers who had been flown in from Stockholm, performed some of ABBAs most popular hit songs and struck a chord with the crowd. We also had a Swing Dance performance with the Moose Maniacs from Sweden dancing together with the Cat’s Corner from China.
The Embassy of Sweden could not have achieved all this without, our sponsors Volvo Cars, Tetra Pak, Volvo Group, Ericsson, Scandinavian Airlines, Astra Zeneca, IKEA, SANDVIK, Atlas Copco, Blueair, OATLY, NoMe, Fjällräven, Happy Socks, Orkla, Rekorderlig, Business Sweden, Swedish Chamber of Commerce and Visit Sweden. Thank you to the event bureau Action Event and to the Kempinski Hotel. And finally thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for your help here on this special day.
