In 2000 Sweden opened an Honorary Consulate in Minsk. In November 2003 Sweden expanded its presence by opening an Embassy Office, part of theEmbassy of Sweden in Moscow. The Embassy Office was operated by a single Swedish diplomat. In December 2007 the Swedish government decided to upgrade the Embassy Office to an Embassy, which officially occurred in 2008. The embassy was temporarily closed from August 2012 to July 2013. The Embassy reopened in 2014.
As of 20 May 2024, the Embassy of Estonia in Minsk has temporarily suspended the processing of applications for short-term visas (type C) from third country nationals in Belarus.
Currently third country nationals, including Belarusian citizens who wish to apply for any type of visa should contact the Embassy of Sweden in Moscow.
!!! Throughout September 2024 the Embassy of Sweden in Moscow will not be accepting applications for Schengen visas either through VFS Global offices or at the Embassy itself. The Embassy intends to restore the established visa application process as soon as possible.

Applications for visa type D:
The Embassy of Sweden in Moscow continues to accept applications for visa Type D (diplomatic visas, applicants who have lost their residence permits, etc.).
The Embassy of Sweden in Moscow also continues to conduct interviews. Interviews, biometric data collection, and passport control will be carried out as usual but only two days a week. Please follow the news about the situation at the following link
Please note that the Embassy of Sweden in Minsk does not have a migration department. For matters related to obtaining residence permits and work/study permits, as well as for biometric data collection, third country nationals, including Belarusian citizens should contact the Embassy of Sweden in Moscow.
Biometric data for work/study in Sweden cannot be submitted at other EU member state embassies. This must be done at an Embassy of Sweden, where such services are available.
