5: Which documentation is needed to apply for a marriage certificate?

If you are deregistered from Sweden and intend to marry at a foreign authority, you can apply for a marriage certificate at the embassy or a consulate.

You need the following documents in original:

  • Passport from you and your future spouse
  • Form SKV 7881 from the Swedish Tax Agency
  • Austrian "Meldebestätigung", or similar document showing where you and your future spouse are registered (not older than three months)
  • Family certificate from the Swedish Tax Agency for the applicant (not older than three months)
  • A certificate from the Austrian authority stating your marital status ("Amtsbestätigung"). If the authority cannot issue such a document, a certificate stating that the authority cannot issue such a document is required instead. (not older than three months)
  • If you were previously married, a final divorce decree is required.
