Official visit of Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden to Australia and New Zealand
Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel of Sweden will visit Australia on 13-15 February and New Zealand on 16-18 February.
Mr Johan Forssell, Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade will accompany the Royal Couple.
The purpose of the visit is to promote and deepen Sweden’s bilateral relations with Australia and New Zealand.
The visit confirms the excellent political and diplomatic ties between our countries and highlights our shared values and interests. The visit promotes two-way trade and investment including in the areas of electrification, mining, healthcare, and innovation. Sustainability is an important overarching theme.

Welcome to country ceremony at the National Museum of Australia, Canberra
A welcome to country ceremony will be held at the National Museum of Australia followed by a meeting with representatives from the museum’s indigenous reference group. After the ceremony there will be a guided tour of the exhibition Great Southern Land.
Visit to Namadgi National Park, Canberra
A visit to Namadgi National Park to learn about the effects of the bushfires in 2020, to interact with the ACT emergency services and visit a koala rehabilitation centre.
Dinner hosted by the Governor-General, Canberra
H.E. Governor-General David Hurley and Mrs Hurley will host a dinner for the Crown Princess, Prince Daniel, Minister Forssell and the Swedish delegation.
Visit to the National Arboretum, Canberra
Tree planting ceremony to commemorate the visit to Australia and to highlight the importance of biodiversity.
Special event on Electrification in Sweden and Australia at Australian National University (ANU), Canberra
Meeting with Professor Brian Schmidt, Vice-Chancellor of the ANU and Nobel Prize Laureate, to learn about climate change related issues in Australia
The meeting will be followed by a special panel event on Electrification in Sweden and Australia, in which Minister Johan Forssell will participate. HRH Crown Princess Victoria will deliver the opening remarks.
Bilateral meetings, Canberra
Minister Forssell will hold bilateral meetings with The Hon Pat Conroy, Minister for Defence Industry, International Development, and the Pacific as well as Senator The Hon Don Farrell, Minister for Trade and Tourism. The Crown Princess and the Prince will attend the meetings.
Reception at Government House, Sydney
NSW Governor Mrs Margret Beazley will host a reception in the evening.
Participation at the Sweden-Australia Sustainable Mining Summit, Sydney
On Wednesday morning the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel will participate in a seminar about sustainable mining, organised by Business Sweden and the Embassy of Sweden in partnership with Invest New South Wales. Minister Johan Forssell will deliver opening remarks.
Visit to The Sydney Opera House
The visit to the Sydney Opera House will include a guided tour that highlights the Swedish company Höganäs’ contribution to the famous roof.

Orientation around regional maritime security and bilateral defence and defence materiel cooperation.
Visit to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
A visit to the Daniel Solander memorial garden and the green flower wall, designed especially for Sydney WorldPride to highlight the importance of inclusiveness, diversity and tolerance.
Visit to Saint Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney
An orientation about oncology and cancer treatment in Australia and about Swedish companies’ contribution to achieve equitable care.
Meeting with the Australian women’s football team and the national team captain, Sydney
A meeting with part of the Australian women’s football team the Matildas and its Swedish coach, Tony Gustafsson ahead of the World Cup 2023 with the aim to showcase the importance of gender equality in sports.

A tour of the National Museum Te Papa including the exhibition Te Taiao, with focus on nature, sustainability, and traditional knowledge.

Visit to dairy farm
The New Zealand visit of the Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel of Sweden and Minister Forssell will conclude with a visit to a dairy farm, to learn about how Swedish innovations and solutions contribute to sustainable food systems and reduce emissions in the agricultural sector.
