The enigmatic life of Swedish painter Hilma af Klint is explored in Lasse Hallström’s lush, engrossing biopic. One of the first abstract painters, Hilma fights through a male-dominated art world to gain recognition for her unique work. Along the way she finds support through female friendship and her artist girlfriend. Hilma is a moving portrayal of a woman fighting for her right to create in a world trying to force her out.
