Thailand is Sweden's largest trade partner in South East Asia.
Major Swedish export sectors are telecommunication equipment, power generation and transmission equipment, vehicles and parts, packaging, steel and forestry products.
Swedish multinational companies such as Ericsson, Volvo, Electrolux, ABB and Tetra Pak dominate Swedish exports. Thai exports to Sweden are more diversified. Machinery, electronics, vehicles and food are some of the important items.
Some Swedish companies have invested in production facilities in Thailand. A few examples are ABB, Mölnlycke Health Care, Electrolux, Eka Chemicals, Perstorp and Volvo.
Sweden and Thailand have concluded agreements on avoidance of double taxation (1989), economic, technical and scientific cooperation (1990), mutual protection of investments (2000) and amateur radio communication usage (2002).
As a member of the European Union (EU) since 1 January 1995, Sweden adheres to the common trade policy established by the EU.
Thailand has a Trade Office in Copenhagen, Denmark, covering Sweden in terms of promoting Thai exports. The Thai Embassy in Stockholm also has a trade officer covering Sweden.
