Additional documents
Additional documentation is required depending on the type of your visit. All documentation must be attached in original. If you want to keep the original copy of the document, attach a photocopy that does not have to be certified, but in that case you must show the original when submitting the request.
Visiting relatives and friends – extra documents
If you apply for a visa to visit relatives and friends, you need the documents listed below.
You must have:
- The documents required by all visa applicants.
Documents concerning the relative or friend in Sweden
You must also attach documents concerning the relative or friend you plan to visit in Sweden. The documents may not be older than 3 months.

Before you apply for visa, your host form Sweden should send you:
- Invitation letter (Inbjudan) on the form no. 241011: Invitation – Before application for Schengen visa (migrationsverket.se). The form for the invitation letter should be submitted in original, with the signature of your host who previously filled it out and sent it to you from Sweden by post.
- Copy of his/her ID card, passport or equivalent, which proves his/her identity.
- Documents which show details of income and assets for the person who pays for the applicant's upkeep during the visit in Sweden. You can find examples of which document to submit in the form.
If the application is for Schengen visa, your host should also enclose:
- A special civic registration certificate (Personbevis) for the purpose Invitation (Inbjudan). This can be ordered from the Swedish Tax Agency. The civic registration certificate does not have to be stamped or signed by the Swedish Tax Agency or any other authority.
Business visit – extra documents
If you apply for a visa to visit Sweden on business, you need the documents listed below.
You must have:
- The documents required by all visa applicants.
- The invitation (in the original) from the company or organisation in Sweden showing both the duration and purpose of the visit and who will be responsible for supporting you financially during your stay.
Sports or cultural visit – extra documents
If you apply for a visa to visit Sweden for a sporting or cultural purpose, you need the documents listed below.
You must have:
- The documents required by all visa applicants.
- If the purpose is a cultural activity
-invitation from whoever is organising the event in Sweden
-confirmation from the home country about the engagements int he cultural sector
- If the purpose is a sporting activity
-invitation from the host organization
-a document from the national association of the sport concerned in your country of origin showing that you are active in this sport.
Tourist visit – extra documents
If you apply for a visa to visit Sweden as a tourist, you need the documents listed below.
You must have:
- The documents required by all visa applicants.
- A detailed travel plan
- A copy of your hotel and air ticket booking (we advise you not to pay for hotel accommodation or air tickets before your visa has been granted).
Minors – extra documents
If you apply for a visa to visit Sweden as a minor, you need the documents listed below.
Minors are anyone under 18 years of age.
You must have:
- The documents required by all visa applicants.
- Visa applications for minors must be signed by their custodians.
- If the minor appliant is travelling with both parents:
-Birth certificate of the applicant
- For minors travelling without their parents/custodians or with just one of them:
-The consent of the custodian or guardian that the minor can travel to Sweden, verified at the local municipality. If another parent is deceased, the death certificate should be attached instead.
