Required documents
If your visa application is to be considered, you must submit the documents listed below. Extra documents are also required, depending on what type of visit you are planning.
When you submit a visa application , you are fully responsible for the information and documents provided. Even if your application was prepared and submitted by a representative.
The application and supporting documents must be submitted either in Swedish or English. If a supported document is issued by the authorities in your country of origin it must be submitted together with a translation in Swedish or English by an authorized translator.
For the Embassy to consider your visa application you must submit the following documents:
- a passport that is valid for at least three months after the visa has expired, was issued in the last ten years and has at least two empty pages
- be able to describe the purpose of your visit
- have an individual medical travel insurance that covers all costs that may arise in connection with emergency medical treatment, urgent medical care or transportation to your home country for medical reasons (the insurance must cover costs of at least 30,000 EUR and be valid for all Schengen countries)
- have money to support yourself and for the return trip home (Sweden also requires you to have 450 SEK for each day you stay in Sweden, which can also be paid for by the person who has invited you)
- proof that you can support yourself, e.g. in the form of a statement of account from your bank or a wage specification for the past six months or bank card.
- Letter from employer stating details of employment including salary, purpose and duration of trip
- show that you intend to leave Sweden and the Schengen area on the last day before the visa expires
- a photograph that is in passport format and taken with you facing the camera and which is not older than six months (only if you do not appear in person to apply for a visa)
If you are a Non Saudi citizen you also need to submit additional documents:
- Copy of your Iqama (residence permit) valid at least 3 months after your intended date of return from the territory of the Schengen states.
- A copy of a Saudi Arabian exit re-entry visa valid beyond the intended date of departure from the territory of the Schengen States.
- Bank statements for the past six months or other verifiable evidence of sufficient means of subsistence during intended stay.
If you are under the age of 18:
- The consent of the custodian or guardian. If there is only one legal custodian, a legal document showing that this is the case must be attached to the application.
- Visa applications for minors must be signed by their legal custodians. In all cases, both parents need to be present in person. If this is not possible, please provide a power of attorney to represent the other legal guardian.
- Copies of the custodians’ ID cards.
For tourism purposes
- be able to describe the purpose of your visit
- A detailed travel plan
- A copy of your hotel and air ticket booking (we advise you not to pay for hotel accommodation or air tickets before your visa has been granted).
To visit relatives and friends
- an invitation from the person you want to visit (the invitation form)
- Civic registration/family certificate (personbevis) for the relative/friend in Sweden. Such a document for the purpose of an invitation may be ordered from Swedish Tax Authority/Skatteverket
- If the relative/friend will be paying for your support in Sweden, his/her pay slip, pension statement or statement of account for the past 6 months.
For business purposes
- The invitation from the company or organisation in Sweden showing both the duration and purpose of the visit and who will be responsible for supporting you financially during your stay.
For a conference or a training course
- An invitation from the company or organisation in Sweden containing the following details:
- your personal information
- arrival and departure
- the purpose of your visit
- who will support your stay in Sweden.
- Conference programme or the equivalent and a copy of the list of participants.
For medical treatment
- be able to describe the purpose of your visit by showing a medical certificate from Sweden that shows when you will receive your treatment and what it entails
- show a medical certificate from the country you are living in that shows that you are not able to receive the treatment there
- show proof that you have deposited money in Sweden for the planned treatment and any medical care that might follow from it
- enclose a completed questionnaire for visa because of medical treatment
For sports or cultural visit
- For a sports activity, a document from the national association of the sport concerned in your country of origin showing that you are active in this sport and who will be responsible for supporting you financially during your stay.
- For a cultural activity, the invitation from whoever is organising the event in Sweden and who will be responsible for supporting you financially during your stay.
For religious purposes
- have an invitation from a religious organisation/assembly
For studies, research or as a doctoral exchange student
- have an invitation or proof of acceptance from a university in Sweden
- have a certificate from your university abroad if you are already registered at a university
For volunteer work or an internship
- have an invitation from the internship/volunteer organisation
