Required documents

If you apply online, you attach the documents electronically. However, you must present the originals of the documents when you visit the embassy (at the interview).

If you apply on a paper form, you have to bring all the requisite documents to the embassy, together with the completed special application form described below.

All documents must be originals and one of each is to be provided when applying at the Embassy. Documents issued by the authorities in your country of origin must be translated into Swedish or English by an authorised translator.

Documents required by all applicants

You need:

• A valid passport
• Russian internal passport with copy of all pages.
• If you are not applying online, you need the form Application for residence permit to settle in Sweden, form no. 161011 or 160011, and the form Family details, no. 239011 or 238011. See heading below for information about children.

Married couples

If you are married, you need the following:

• The documents required by all applicants (see above)
  
  
• Wedding certificate or marriage certificate
  
  
• A document showing that the marriage has been registered in your country of origin (equivalent to a civic registration certificate in Sweden), where possible
  
  
• Proof of national registration, a rental contract or proof of sale for your joint residence, or other document that shows you have lived together (applies to persons who have lived in a country other than Sweden).

Unmarried couples

If you are not married, you need:

• The documents required by all applicants:
• Proof of national identity or other document showing that you are not married
• Proof of national registration, a rental contract or proof of sale for your joint residence, or other document that shows you have lived together (applies to persons who have lived in a country other than Sweden)

Children under age

If you have children under 18 accompanying you to Sweden you can apply for a residence permit for them in your online application.

Children under age need:

• The documents required by all applicants (see above).
• If you are not applying online or if the child is applying alone, form no. 163011 or 162011 Application for a residence permit for a child under the age of 18 to settle in Sweden, and form Family details 239011 or 238011
• Birth or kinship certificate.
• Consent 217011 or 216011 of the child’s custodian. If there is only one custodian, a document showing that this is the case must be attached to the application.

Other close relatives

Other close relatives are members of your family other than your husband/wife/common law spouse, a minor or the parent of a minor.

You should be able to prove that you have lived together immediately before your relative moved to Sweden and that you were socially and emotionally dependent on each other, and that this makes it hard for you to live apart.

The application should be submitted as quickly as possible after your relative moved to Sweden and was granted a permanent residence permit. Generally, it is not possible to receive a residence permit if the application is done a long time afterwards, or if the dependency has been established after your relative moved to Sweden.

If you are in this category, you need:

• The documents required by all applicants (see above)
• A document certifying that you and your relative are dependent on each other and have difficulty living apart, e.g. for social, emotional or financial reasons
• A document showing how you are related
• A document showing that you lived together immediately before the relative moved to Sweden
