If you are a non-EU citizen who has been granted a residence permit for Sweden, you will also receive a residence permit card as proof of your permission to stay in Sweden for more than 90 days, or live in Sweden.
All residence permit holders must have a valid residence permit card as proof of their residence permit. For a temporary residence permit, the residence permit card is valid for the same period of time as the temporary residence permit. For a permanent residence permit, the residence permit card is valid for a number of years at a time and must be renewed, while the permanent residence permit does not have an expiry date.
Residence permit cards for Sweden are manufactured by the Swedish Migration Agency in Sweden. To obtain a residence permit card, you must have your fingerprints and a photograph taken. Please note that fingerprints and photographs taken for potential previous residence permit cards cannot be reused. Fingerprints and photographs for residence permit cards for Sweden can be taken outside of Sweden at some of Sweden’s Missions abroad, or in Sweden at the Swedish Migration Agency.
If you are outside of Sweden and have been granted a residence permit for Sweden, and you are a citizen of a non-EU country who normally requires a Schengen short-stay visa to enter the Schengen Area for visits, you must obtain your residence permit card before you can enter Sweden.
