Not all non-EU citizens need to apply for a visa. Check the list of countries whose citizens need a visa to enter Sweden.
Holders of an Italian residence permit do not have to apply for a visa if the permit is valid for the whole intended stay (maximum 90 days during a total period of 180 days) in Sweden.
Information on requirements to enter Sweden without a visa
A Schengen visa is normally valid in all Schengen countries. In some cases, the visa may only be valid for entry in certain Schengen countries.
Your application is submitted to the Embassy of Sweden in Rome through a personal visit. You need to book an appointment before you visit the Embassy.
Most people must pay a fee when applying for a visa. Information about fees can be found on the Swedish Migration Agency’s website. The fee can be paid with credit card or in cash.

The Embassy will register your application and then send it to the Swedish Migration Agency for decision.
Usually you receive a decision within two weeks. In individual cases the handling time might be longer.
